Announcing the 2017 Concerto Competition winners

Congratulations to the winners of the 2017 Concerto Competition: David Schonberger, bass trombone; Yung-Yi Chen, piano; Luis Manuel Marquez Turuel, bassoon; and Miyu Kubo, violin.

The four winners will perform their selected pieces with the Arts Academy Orchestra during the March 15 concert. David Schonberger will perform the Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra by Thom Ritter George; Yung-Yi Chen will perform Franz Liszt’s Concerto No. 1 in E-flat Major, S. 124; Luis Manuel Marquez Teruel will perform Andante e rondo ongarese, Op. 35 by Carl Maria von Veber; and Miyu Kubo will perform Henri Vieuxtemps’ Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Minor, Op. 37.

The event was judged by three professional musicians: flutist Jim Walker of Colburn Conservatory; violinist Charles Castleman of Miami Frost School of Music; and pianist Benjamin Pasternack of the Peabody Conservatory.
