Bruce Steivel will Serve as Artist in Residence

Interlochen, Mich. – Internationally recognized choreographer and institutor, Bruce Steivel will join the Interlochen Arts Academy dance department as a guest artist in residence from October 28 through November 7.

Steivel will spend his residency teaching ballet to Academy dance majors. He has been sought as a guest teacher from dance companies world-wide, including the Norwegian National Ballet, the National Ballet of Portugal, the Berlin Stadstoper, Shanghai Ballet, Bat-Dor of Israel, and the National Institute of Istanbul, Turkey.

Currently, Steivel serves as the Artistic Director for the International Concours de Danse in Luxembourg, under the patronage of the Grande Duc and Duchess of Luxembourg.  He has served as the Artistic Director of the Nevada Ballet Theatre, the Bern Stadt Theatre in Switzerland, the Hong Kong Ballet and the Universal Ballet of Korea. He has danced every major role in the classical repertoire and his contemporary repertoire includes working with dance icons such as Sir Frederick Ashton, Hans van Manen, Jiri Kylian and Maurice Bejart. And several of his works are in the repertoire of five major dance companies.

Interlochen Arts Academy, a fine arts boarding high school, engages students artistically and academically. A ballet-based curriculum with additional emphasis in modern and jazz techniques encourages dancers to be versatile performers. Students and faculty stage three fully-produced dance concerts each year. College-prep academics foster cross-disciplinary thinking to prepare students for any professional endeavor.

This winter, Interlochen dance faculty will conduct auditions across the country for admission to either of Interlochen’s world-renowned educational programs: Interlochen Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Academy. Please visit www.interlochen.org/audition for more information and a full audition schedule.

Interlochen Arts Academy attracts exceptionally talented and motivated students from nearly every state and more than 20 other countries to study creative writing, music, dance, visual arts, theatre, motion picture arts and rigorous college-preparatory academics.
