OBJECTIVES
Voice study provides instruction compatible with the student’s goals and abilities in a classical voice environment.
A typical voice student's schedule would include a lesson, choir and music theory; and could also include chamber music (by audition), opera workshop (by audition), piano study (private lesson by audition or class piano), French classes, and appropriate academic classes.
Voice Lesson
DESCRIPTION
Each prospective voice student is auditioned to determine his/her appropriate level of instruction. An assignment to either private lessons (hour or half-hour) is made on the basis of the student's ability, achievement, and motivation. This placement is subject to change depending upon the work produced.In addition to private lessons, there are weekly studio classes, numerous student recitals, master classes and guest artists that further enhance the musical training of all voice students.
OBJECTIVES
• Students work to attain vocal growth in several aspects. Technical skills, the learning of sound appropriate literature, increased musicianship skills and gaining an appreciation of classical voice study and all that entails.
• We attempt to achieve these goals through sound vocal technique based appropriate concepts and vocalises for the young singer, and the study of classical voice repertoire, including diction studies and text comprehension.
STUDENT PERFORMANCE
• The mainstay of private solo voice studies at Interlochen is the private lesson and the countless studio performances in that realm.
• In addition there are weekly studio classes, numerous student recitals, and master classes that give the student the venue for performance opportunities. Competitions outside of Interlochen are also a focus of many vocal students as well.
ASSESMENT
• Assessment will be made on a variety of factors including

• Punctuality
• Attendance
• Attitude
• Improvement based on the individuals musical capacities.
TEXT / MATERIALS
Music will be individualized to the student’s ability level. Music will be brought to Interlochen personally by the student or may be purchased at the Interlochen Music Store and/or checked out from the Interlochen Music Library. In some studios, there may also be handouts provided by the individual voice instructor.

Description
An introduction to basic stage deportment as it applies to operatic performance. This course is designed to help aspiring opera singers integrate the singing voice with movement, facial expression, and characterization. Class culminates in a staged performance each semester.

• Portray a character through posture, facial expression, gesture, timing, and subtext
• Position body for optimum vocal delivery
