Interlochen, Mich. – Seven Academy students have been named candidates in the Presidential Scholars program. This spring, the Commission on Presidential Scholars will review the applications of all candidates and select up to 121 scholars in academics and up to 20 scholars in the arts. The Presidential Scholars will travel to Washington D.C. in June to be honored for their accomplishments.
The Presidential Scholars program was created in 1964 to honor academic achievement and was expanded in 1979 to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, literary and performing arts. Thirty-nine Academy students have earned this distinction, a record unmatched by any school in the country, public or private. The seven candidates for Presidential Scholars in Arts / Academics are:
