Interlochen Arts Academy Horn Studio

The Interlochen Arts Academy horn studio brings together talented students from all over the world to work and learn together at our campus located amidst the beautiful woods of Northwest Michigan.  Recent horn graduates from the Academy have gone on to continue their musical studies at such prestigious schools as The Juilliard School of Music, The Curtis Institute of Music, The Eastman School of Music, Southern Methodist University, and Indiana University, among others.  At the Academy, students have opportunities to gain valuable experience participating in daily rehearsals/performances with large ensembles as well as chamber ensembles.  Horn students perform in exceptional ensembles that include Orchestra, Band, Brass Ensemble, Horn Ensemble and brass/woodwind quintets.

The horn studio focuses on preparing students for a successful performing future by holding frequent mock auditions, masterclasses, and solo performance opportunities.  Each horn student attends one weekly private lesson with our distinguished horn faculty, as well as a weekly two-hour masterclass/studio class that varies from excerpt study, guest artist performances, horn ensemble rehearsals and solo performance opportunities.  Horn students are taught professional and social etiquette in the music world, and are expected to graduate with a sense of what it takes to be a professional musician and a good colleague.

Please feel free to explore this page to learn more about our past and present horn students and faculty members.  For application information, please visit the main page of the Arts Academy High School or click here.  Follow this link to view a short video on how to prepare for your Academy music audition.
