Interlochen Arts Academy boarding high school offers student guitarists a program of pre-professional music training and college preparatory academics. Acoustic guitar students graduate well-prepared for the rigors of study at the university and conservatory level, and electric guitar students in the studio music program graduate prepared for work in the commercial world.
The guitar course of study is designed to provide for technical and musical growth according to the individual needs and abilities of each student.
The guitar major requirements include:
Private Lesson and Studio
Guitar lessons are paced for and tailored to individual students. They address improvement in reading, physical skills, knowledge of repertoire, and expression. The primary goal is to develop these skills without unnecessary tension and with effective technique and mechanics. Students are guided to develop the presence and awareness necessary to identify tension, technical inefficiencies, and musical failings, and to develop the discipline necessary to address them immediately.
Frequent performance opportunities and classes with guest artists help maximize each student’s potential.
Guest guitarists who have given concerts and master classes at Interlochen include:
