Interlochen Arts Academy boarding high school offers student percussionists a program of pre-professional music training and college preparatory academics. Students graduate well-prepared for the rigors of study at the university and conservatory level, and those in the studio music program graduate prepared for work in the commercial world.
Percussion students are required to have basic skills on snare drum, mallet percussion, timpani, and accessory percussion. Drum set is also encouraged. Percussion majors receive one full period lesson each week and are required to play in the Studio Music Ensemble or the Band/Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble.
The following serves as an outline of materials and playing techniques studied in private lessons and studio classes and is individualized to the needs and goals of each student.
