"Hold the Floor" was the first collaborative piece by this 2012-13 group of singer-songwriter students. This video was taken from the first singer-songwriter performance at Interlochen Arts Academy October 25th, 2012.
The Singer-Songwriter program at Interlochen Arts Academy provides a comprehensive curriculum in the discipline of popular music songwriting. Students will foster their own personal musical style while developing skills in melody, harmony, arranging and lyric-writing.
Instruction in piano, guitar and voice are also provided to further the students' performance abilities. While the program is part of the music department, it draws on the resources of other departments,
particularly the creative writing program.
Through their studies, students will prepare a personal portfolio of completed work to be used in all their future endeavors in performance, writing, composition, music production and music business.

How to Apply
In addition to completing an application and other documents required for admission to the Academy, applicants to the singer-songwriter program must complete an audition.
Whenever possible, a live, on-campus audition is preferred and can be scheduled by contacting the Office of Admission. If a live in-person audition is not possible, students may submit their audition online.
A performance of three to five of a student's original songs. Students will also need to share a copy of the song lyrics; for online auditions lyrics can be uploaded as a document.
