Academy Creative Writing News

Thirty-six Interlochen students and alumni were honored by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts during the 2009-10 YoungArts program. Fourteen Interlochen Campers and Arts Academy students were selected as finalists and 22 received honorable mentions.

During the spring 2010 semester, Interlochen Arts Academy will offer a live video stream of twelve select student performances and presentations.

This year, seventeen Academy students achieved finalist status. From this group, seven were selected as Presidential Scholar candidates and one was named a Presidential Scholar.

Ava Ambrose Tomasula y Garcia, 14, of South Bend, has been selected as the winner of the 2009 Virginia B. Ball Creative Writing Competition.

Phoebe Rusch has been named one of 20 Presidential Scholars in the Arts by U.S. Secretary of Education, Margaret Spellings. The Chicago-area playwright is the 39th Presidential Scholar from Interlochen Arts Academy
