Thirty-six Interlochen students and alumni were honored by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts during the 2009-10 YoungArts program. Fourteen Interlochen Campers and Arts Academy students were selected as finalists and 22 received honorable mentions.

During the spring 2010 semester, Interlochen Arts Academy will offer a live video stream of twelve select student performances and presentations.

In August 2009, Academy visual arts instructor, John McKaig was in the right place and the right time to take a snapshot that was immediately sought after by major media outlets.

This year, seventeen Academy students achieved finalist status. From this group, seven were selected as Presidential Scholar candidates and one was named a Presidential Scholar.

Academy visual arts major Jordan Else Pemberton of Michigan won first place honors for the 2009 Utrecht Art Supplies fifth Annual Self-Portrait Contest, co-sponsored by the Savannah College of Art & Design.

Endi Poskovic will spend the week working with Academy visual arts students and exhibiting his solo work at the visual arts gallery. It is the first exhibition in the new visual arts gallery.

The 36,000 square-foot Herbert H. and Barbara C. Dow Center for Visual Arts features a 1,600 square-foot gallery and eight studio spaces.

Interlochen Arts Academy visual arts student, Shawn Smith, was one of twelve high school seniors from across the nation to be honored with a Gold Portfolio Award from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
