Dr. Dane Philipsen came to Interlochen from Chicago, where performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra while completing his Doctor of Musical Arts in Oboe Performance at Northwestern University.

Before moving to Chicago, Philipsen lived in Atlanta, where he was Principal Oboe of the Atlanta Opera and performed and recorded with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his performing career, Dane has extensive experience teaching oboe at Emory University, Kennesaw State University, and on the high school level at the prestigious Westminster Schools in Atlanta.

Dane was a student of Scott Hostetler at Northwestern University, Martin Schuring at Arizona State University, and Tom Barry at the University of Northern Iowa. He has done additional study with Richard Killmer at the Banff Center and apprenticed with David Webber as a professional reed maker.
