Doug has served in many capacities at Interlochen beginning with membership in the residence hall staff working for two years in Picasso House and two years in Thor Johnson as both a Hall Counselor and Hall Director. During the summers Doug worked for the Admissions Office and spent two years Co-Directing Intermediate Girls at the Interlochen Arts Camp. Following that experience Doug coached, taught history, was a Middle School Counselor and District Wellness Coordinator (Safe and Drug Free Schools work, Outdoor Adventure Education, Staff Training, Physical Education, Health) for the Spring Independent School District in Spring, Texas. In 2000 Doug returned to Interlochen as the Assistant Dean of Student Services, continuing his work on the residence life side of the program. 2005 brought about his shift to Academic and College Counseling which he maintains is his favorite position held.
