Julie Oberts first joined Interlochen in 2008 as a member of the Residence Life team and has held a variety of positions at both Camp and Academy. In her new role as Dean of Students at Interlochen Arts Academy, Julie oversees Residence Life and student conduct, acts as a student advocate, and is an integral member of the Student Affairs team. She is focused on providing students opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and abilities for a lifetime of engagement with the arts and socially just communities.
Prior to returning to Interlochen Arts Academy as Dean, Julie spent four years at the University of California within the division of Student Affairs. She was responsible for residential operations and education, housing management, student engagement and activities, and student conduct for two colleges. Prior to moving to California, Julie served students at the University of Vermont in a variety of roles including advising, campus orientation, and residence life.
Julie holds a Masters of Education in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from The University of Vermont, a Bachelors of Visual Art Education from Eastern Michigan University, and is currently earning her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of California, Davis. She is committed to holding students and her staff to high expectations and is passionate to find new and innovative ways to support student learning. Julie will live on campus with her wife, Kate, whom she met in high school band.
