In the month of December, dancers focused on practicing for and performing The Nutcracker.
Dance students gave a preview of the ballet on Dec. 1, when they visited the Cowell Family Cancer Center in Traverse City. Center staff, guests and patients gathered in the atrium to watch scenes from the 125-year-old show.
The dancers began their traditional performances in Corson Auditorium on Thursday, Dec. 7, performing three more times over the course of the weekend. The Dance students were joined onstage by select members of the Arts Academy Theatre Company, and danced to live music by the Arts Academy Orchestra and Choir. All four shows boasted sold-out crowds and hundreds of viewers via live stream.
But the dancers weren’t finished after the Interlochen show: this year, the students were invited to present an offsite performance at the Cheboygan Opera House in Cheboygan, Michigan. Their Dec. 16 show is anticipated to be another sold-out performance.
