This Capoeira-inspired choreography was originally created for Jennifer McQuiston Lott and Michael Spencer Philips in New York City, June 2015. In the fall of 2015 Comparative Arts Director Nicola Conraths Lange was able to restage it with Ella Dorman and Mark Lambert, dance majors at the Interlochen Arts Academy.
Working directly with Munson Medical Center, Interlochen students from such varied fields of study as Music, Design & Production, Singer-Songwriter and Comparative Arts, collaborated on an interactive presentation of science, improvisation, poetry and music. Heart and Art was also selected as the National Winner of the College Board Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts.

The theatre arts major at Interlochen Arts Academy is designed for young artists who are serious about their craft. Through Stanislavsky-based performance training, students explore the full potential of their own unique resources.
An excerpt from the March 2014 winter dance concert, and just one example of the cross-discipline collaboration that students at the Academy engage in. The performance included music, dance and set design from visual arts.
Spring 2012, in collaboration with the Music and Dance divisions, the Interlochen Arts Academy Theatre Arts department staged a production of "West Side Story" providing an opportunity for students to explore a landmark work from the canon of American musical theatre.
