Students residing in Detroit in grades three through twelve have access to more financial aid to attend the world-renowned Interlochen Arts Camp than ever before.

Thanks to many generous donors, Interlochen has reserved more than $140,000 in need-based scholarship funds to bring students from Detroit to Interlochen Arts Camp in 2020—the most financial aid reserved for Detroit students to attend Interlochen Arts Camp in Interlochen’s history. Detroit students can also compete for scholarships that will be awarded through partnerships with Detroit arts organizations—and apply for financial aid that is available to all Camp applicants. Full-tuition scholarships are available.

"We are committed to providing access to an Interlochen experience for every talented student who wants to be here," said Trey Devey, President of Interlochen Center for the Arts. "Detroit is a major cultural center and we are thrilled to partner with some of the area’s most vibrant arts organizations to bring talented students to Interlochen."

Interlochen Arts Camp is a world-renowned summer arts program that has been at the forefront of arts education for nearly a century. Each summer, artistic students ages 8 to 18 from around the world convene at Interlochen to hone their skills and expand their capacity in music, theatre, dance, creative writing, visual arts, and film. Programs are one, two, three, four, and six weeks long. Surrounded by peers who share their artistic passion and curiosity, students forge cross-cultural friendships that last a lifetime and find reflection, rejuvenation, and inspiration on Interlochen’s pristine, 1,200-acre campus.

Detroit-based arts organizations that are partnering with Interlochen to award scholarships include the Detroit Children’s Choir, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Civic Youth Ensemble, Inside Out, the Michigan Opera Theatre and Children’s Choir, the Royal Oak Young Artist Competition, and the Sphinx Organization.

Interlochen Center for the Arts is offering more scholarships for Michigan students to attend Interlochen Arts Camp than ever before, with financial aid earmarked for students in Detroit, northern Michigan, southeast Michigan, and Grand Rapids. Michigan students can also apply for need- and merit-based scholarships that are open to all Camp applicants. More than 70 percent of students who apply for assistance to attend Interlochen Arts Camp receive financial aid.

To apply to Interlochen Arts Camp, visit camp.interlochen.org. The priority application date for programs that require an audition or portfolio is Jan. 15, 2020. All other programs enroll on a rolling basis.

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, representatives from Interlochen's admission team will be at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center from 4 to 8 p.m. to conduct auditions for summer music and theatre arts programs.
