About David

David Tanis began his Interlochen career in 2016 as the Director of Recreation and Wellness. Prior to Interlochen, Tanis spent 15 years with the Kellogg Company, where he helped develop and implement their North American wellness strategy. Tanis has always had a passion for working with young adults. He spent over 10 years creating high school lacrosse programs, becoming only the third NCAA women's lacrosse coach in the state of Michigan. Since joining Interlochen Tanis has created the first school-sponsored varsity sports program, monthly wellness challenges like Squatober, Planksgiving, and Elf for Health along with several anchor programs such as Go the Distance and the Interlochen Tri.

Looking to give back to the community Tanis has led a team to volunteer at community events, most recently the Iceman Cometh mountain bike race among other fun activities throughout the community.

In addition, Tanis has created multiple community events such as 5K's, marathons, open water swim events that have brought tens of thousands of dollars to regional non-profit organizations. The Interlochen Run for the Arts 5K is a current project that has all proceeds benefiting the general scholarship fund.

I look to give students tools that will help them become a complete community member.
